13 Fishing Introduces New Technique-Specific Power Cork Rod
13 Fishing® is thrilled to release the new Power Cork rod in its premium Myth series, a technique-specific rod designed in partnership with legendary angler and guide Tony Roach exactly and only for power corking.
With the increase in popularity of forward-facing sonar (FFS), the highly effective power corking technique has taken the angling world by storm. The power corking setup consists of a slip bobber, light but intentional tackle, and meticulous depth control. Once several pods of fish have been identified at a specific depth using FFS, drop or pitch the bait into the strike zone two feet above the fish. Then get the net.
This aggressive technique is especially effective on calm, bluebird days when the bite typically shuts down. This isn't your grandfather's bobber fishing.
Despite the technique’s growing popularity, the market has yet to see a rod perfectly made for power corking. Until now.
“There was such a need for a premium rod for this technique, and 13 Fishing has created the ultimate power corking rod,” said Tony Roach, professional walleye guide and longtime Rapala pro staff. “Hook-up percentages are just fantastic with this rod. I absolutely fell in love with it. It’s going to be your favorite as well.” Tony recently joined 13 Fishing pro staff to help build and promote new 13 Fishing rods, especially technique specific models.
The Power Cork Rod comes with a Japanese PVG40T graphite blank taper designed with zonal action technology, Fuji® stainless steel K-frame guides with alconite inserts, and an Evolve® soft touch custom reel seat.
“Guides are so key because you need smaller guides for distance casting, but when you’re bobber fishing, you need to upsize those just a little bit so your slip knot can slide through easily,” said Roach. “This is everything you need in a power corking rod and then some. We truly nailed it with the guides.”
This rod also features a premium 4A cork full grip handle for maximum comfort and an Evolve® snagless hook keeper.
“It's unbelievable how light this blank is. I have almost zero fatigue after fishing all day long with this rod,” said Roach. “It's got a really comfortable, super light handle.”
For the ultimate power corking combo, complete your set up with the Sufix® Defcon line, Tungsten Mooneye jig in 1/16 oz, a VMC® Sniper Swivel, and a nightcrawler or leeches.
This rod comes in a length of 7’9”, has medium-magnum power, and imparts moderate-fast action. It has a line rating of 6 to 14 lbs and a lure rating of 1/8 to 7/8 oz.
