Winners Announced: Rapala Coloring Competition

Thanks to everyone who enter our coloring competition. We received over 600 entries and they showed outstanding creativity and ability. Our team of judges had a very tough time deciding the winners.

Congratulations to the winner of the competition: Tamir Ovadia (@tamirovadia_148) from Israel with his ‘Iwashi Herring’ design.

The People’s Choice Award goes to @escamasblog.

We had an overwhelming amount of kid’s entries and we decided to pick 3 surprise winners and we will also be creating 1 Super Shadow Rap lure with their designs.

Congratulations to Luca, Obeida & Tyler.

We sat down with one of our lure color designers from Finland, Esa Juusola; who created the final product and asked him for a few thoughts on the competition and why they picked the ‘Iwashi Herring’ as the winning color?

“Bright saltwater styled colors together with nice scale patterns work well and this immediately caught my eye. Tamir used great construction in utilizing the inner hologram designs of the Super Shadow Rap to blend its vibrant belly pattern with the upper scale pattern.”

“When adapting the winning design for production, I had to design back and belly paints that would fit with the side designs. I made some small modifications to the color design file to align the scale pattern and belly design with the Super Shadow Rap body and I also adjusted some of the colors to get a perfect result when printing the colors.“

“I was really impressed with all designs we received. It was a funny process to glance through the entries because there were so many different approaches to a lure color. Some were clearly focused on designing a perfect color for their own fishing waters and some used the lure as canvas for an amazing work of art.”
