There are expert anglers in every corner of North America, but only a small percentage of fishing’s finest possess the skills necessary to communicate, motivate and educate. Outdoor personality Chip Leer is one of the elite.
Chip is a northwoods sportsman through and through. His career began guiding on such legendary waters as Lake of the Woods, Lake Kabetogama, Rainy Lake, Lake Mille Lacs, and Leech Lake in Minnesota. During the mid 1990’s Chip founded the Leech Lake Guide Coalition, and his annual competition, The Leech Lake Evinrude Walleye Classic. The tournament had humble beginnings yet evolved into one of the Midwest’s largest walleye tournaments with 250 Teams, yet it was his fishing reputation that gave Chip the state’s highest fishing honors in 2007 when chosen to guide the state’s governor on opening day.
Chip has created and launched three fishing based publications of his own. Dock Talk for the Leech Lake Guide Coalition, Fishing the WildSide to assist open water anglers and Fishing the WildSide On-Ice directed towards ice fishing. He also used FTW to launch the fishing industries first-ever electronic magazine that included unique moving elements and embedded video to compliment the written word. Chip’s recognizable voice has been heard on outdoor radio programs across the country as he has proven himself as an informative and entertaining guest.
Chip has been the face & stage emcee for the MN Pro/Am Bass Tour, Tournament Director for In-Fisherman’s Professional Walleye Trail, Evinrude Walleye Classic, emcee of the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament, KA Walleye Classic and International Falls Bass Championships. In 2013 Chip hosted the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour again on NBC Sports as well as Pursuit Channel, MAV-TV and the World Fishing Network.
No matter where you turn in the world of fishing, TV, radio, newspaper, magazine, catalog or special event. Chances are Chip Leer is or has been there. His influence is broad and his enthusiasm for the sport is contagious.
